Richard Rowlands has extensive experience in Estate Planning, Elder Law, Taxation, Estate and Trust Administration, Estate Litigation, Business Law, and Real Estate Law and has frequently written, lectured and presented seminars in these areas.  He has successfully litigated a variety of will contests in various Surrogate Courts, as well as cases involving abuse of powers of attorney and removal of executors and trustees.  He is also a contributing editor of Drafting New York Wills (Matthew Bender) and author of Chapter 18 on "Retirement and Estate Planning."

He is admitted to practice in New York. 

Mr. Rowlands is a graduate of the University of Rochester, the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School and Submarine School, and the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College. He received his law degree from Albany Law School of Union University where he was awarded membership in the prestigious Justinian Society.  He is a retired Brigadier General on the New York State Retired List.

He is also a member of the American, New York State and Albany County Bar Associations and is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York and the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association.  He serves as counsel to Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc.; the New York State Independent Living Council; and the Association of Area Agencies on Aging.  An active community volunteer, Mr. Rowlands is a member of the board of directors of the Visiting Nurses Association and Seton Health Foundation (St. Mary’s Hospital).
