Providing comprehensive representation to both public and private employers on all facets of labor and employment law, we represent over eighty-five (85) municipalities and school districts throughout New York State, as well as large and small privately owned businesses and firms.
Our services include providing counsel to clients on appropriate employment policies and assisting them in drafting employment contracts, non-competition agreements and employee handbooks, taking an active role in the review and modification of employee manuals and policies to ensure compliance with the myriad of state and federal laws affecting the workplace, and collective bargaining with a variety of unions. We provide guidance on employee benefit and wage issues and represent employers in administrative proceedings, agencies such as the Department of Labor, the Workers Compensation Board and Unemployment Insurance Board. Our attorneys defend lawsuits in state and federal courts involving all labor issues, such as wrongful discharge and discrimination claims, and regularly appear before such agencies as:
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
- The Public Employment Relations Board
- The National Labor Relations Board
- New York State Labor Department
- New York State Health Department
- New York State Education Department
- New York State Unemployment Department
- New York State Division of Human Rights
In addition to the services listed above, for our public sector clients, our attorneys provide counsel on the specific rules and regulations that govern regulations between public sector employers and employees, including compliance with Taylor Law issues, collective bargaining contract issues and rights and obligations of employers and employees. Our extensive representation of school districts and other public municipalities provides an advantage to our clients during arbitrations, leveling the playing field with experienced union representatives, to enable a fair and equitable outcome.
Our labor and employment attorneys have extensive experience representing both public and private sector employers on a wide range of employment litigation matters. We have successfully defended cases involving civil rights violations, sexual harassment claims, disability discrimination, Title VII discrimination issues, and First Amendment cases. As with all defense cases, we take an aggressive approach towards the dismissal of charges through a comprehensive investigation, motion, and discovery process.
Finally, we believe that by taking some preventative steps, employers can often avoid costly discrimination and harassment litigation. As part of our comprehensive services, we provide our clients with the tools and information to internally handle situations that arise in the workplace through on-site training workshops. Our sessions are designed to reduce the risk of litigation and improve workplace morale. Critical areas of employer training that we provide address issues of equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment, policy development, workplace discrimination, complaint investigation and evaluation, employee discipline, and the implementation of preventative measures.
