Jay E. Girvin, Esq. to Give Presentation on Minimum Wage & Overtime Issues at NYCOM’s Upcoming Fall Training on September 14, 2016

Girvin will present at the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials’ (“NYCOM”) Fall Training Seminar at the Hilton Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York on September 14, 2016. Since 1910, NYCOM has existed to advocate, educate, and provide training and information to city and village government officials throughout New York State. On September 14, 2016, Jay Girvin will join in this effort by giving a presentation entitled “Minimum Wage & Overtime Essentials: Are You in Compliance?” to NYCOM’s members. The presentation will include a discussion and brief overview of minimum wage and overtime requirements at the state and federal levels, particularly with respect to the Fair Labor Standards Act and the updates to the FLSA made effective in 2016. For over 65 years CASDA has worked to assist “educators and their schools in addressing challenges, embracing opportunities, and creating positive, lasting outcomes for students.” On August 4, 2016, Jay E. Girvin, Esq. (link to his profile), a founding partner of the firm of Girvin & Ferlazzo, P.C., joined with CASDA at its School Law Seminar to provide its members with a primer on current and ongoing harassment and discrimination issues relevant to educators and their school districts. The presentation addressed the various definitions and forms of discrimination and harassment, the need for and necessary components of anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies and procedures, important considerations during the hiring/selection process, the proper way to perform internal discrimination/harassment investigations, how to defend against a civil harassment/discrimination lawsuit, and the proper handling of paper and electronic records prior to, during, and after litigation begins.
